CoQ10 Supplement
CoQ10 (Coenzyme Q10) is one in a series of ubiquinones, naturally occurring compounds produced in nearly every cell of the body, and was discovered as recently as 1957. CoQ10 plays a key role in producing energy in the mitochondria, the part of a cell responsible for the production of energy in the form of ATP. CoQ10′s alternate name, Ubiquinone, comes from the word ubiquitous, which means “found everywhere. Supplementation with CoQ10 replenishes the diminished levels of CoQ10, fostering a protective defense against oxidative stress and age-related disease. CoQ10 supplements have been consumed by millions of people for more than 30 years without serious adverse effects. CoQ10 is fat-soluble, so it is better absorbed when taken with a meal that contains oil or fat.
Dietary supplementation for adults taking Coenzyme Q10 should be between 30 and 90 mg per day. While coenzyme Q does occur naturally in all fruits and vegetables, it is difficult to get enough of it on a daily basis from food alone. Young and healthy individual produces about 300 mg of coenzyme Q10 a day, but levels begin to decrease after age 30.
Studies have shown that it helps combat various forms of cardiovascular disease, including congestive heart failure and hypertension and reduces the number and size of certain tumors and is useful in treating gum disease. Studies have shown that the oil-preserved form is up to 3 times better absorbed than other forms. Co Enzyme Q10 Studies have found that as we age, our body’s supply of CoQ10 slowly diminishes. Several double-blind studies have found that CoQ10 supplements can markedly improve symptoms and objective measurements of heart function when they are taken along with conventional medication. Several studies have reported that supplementation with CoQ10 (100 -300mg/day) can reduce blood pressure in people with hypertension. Immune System Function: Studies have shown that cancer patients who take 90mg of CoQ10 per day may experience a reduction in pain and weight loss, increased appetite, and decrease of metastases. In several studies, CoQ10 worked wonders with patients who had chosen to take chemotherapy, reducing the toxicity of such treatment. But now a new series of studies are turning up some even more exciting news. A variety of human studies have been conducted with Coenzyme Q10 confirming the role of Q10 as a valuable cardiovascular support nutrient. Something to watch out for is the Satin drugs that so many people take to reduce cholesterol can inhibit Co Enzyme Q10 production in the body.
Side effects of CoQ10 may include diarrhea and rash. In a study published in the Oct issue of Archives of Neurology, effects of high doses of Co Enzyme Q10 on the progression of Parkinson’s disease was reported. CoQ10 reduces many of the serious side effects of cholesterol and other prescription drugs such as beta blockers. It generally has no side effects, even in high doses. Long term of high doses use side effects are not clear at this time. CoQ10 appears to be essentially nontoxic and free of side effects. CoQ10 might interfere with the anticoagulant effects of Coumadin (Warfarin). CoQ10 is intended for adults who want help maintaining normal cardiac function, for those concerned with declining CoQ10 levels with age, for those concerned with the effects of free radicals and who desire potent antioxidant protection, and finally for those who wish to support their body’s normal processes of energy production.
Primary Benefits Strengthens heart muscle function and cardiac output without negative side effects*Maintains existing normal blood pressure*Promotes cardiovascular health by inhibiting LDL oxidation*Provides powerful protection against free radical damage in mitochondria*Recycles vitamin E in the body, bolstering our antioxidant defense network*Supports healthy skin by providing protection against UV radiation*Promotes healthy periodontal condition of teeth and gums*. Men who have proven coronary heart disease should consider taking 300mg of Coenzyme Q10 a day, as should women with breast cancer.
Take a look at some of the Co Enzyme Q10 benefits: Co Q10 can help weight loss because it helps stimulate the body’s metabolism CoQ10 is an essential substance in cell respiration, electron transfer, ATP production, and the control of oxidation reactions Co Enzyme Q10 plays a key role in treatment of cardiovascular illness, including congestive heart failure. CoQ10 has show promising results in treatment of cancer and Parkinson’s disease, and Co Q10 has show to slow the effects of Parkinson’s disease. In numerous research programs conducted by Kaneka Corporation of Osaka, Japan, the world’s leading manufacturer of the coenzyme, CoQ10 has been proven to be of significant value in alleviating the effects of the following: heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, Aging, HIV/AIDS, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and periodontal disease. Not all the results have been positive and much more research is needed before we determine the full benefits, side effects, and appropriate dosage.
